Westminster College overcame an early 4-0 St. Lawrence lad with eight runs in the top of the fourth inning and went on to a 17-4 win in the Saints' season opener in Florida on Saturday evening.

Westminster pounded out 16 hits and took advantage of eight Saint walks and three errors for the victory, which came in the Saints' first outdoor appearance of the year.

Senior Chris Cook took the loss, going 3.2 innings and was charged with eight runs, seven earned. A trio of rookie pitchers saw their first collegiate action in the game with Michael Dell'Olio,  Joe Riley and Chris Kellogg all seeing action. Kellogg struck out four and walked one in his two innings of work and did not allow an earned run.

Sophomore Jeff Kott led the Saint hitters with a three for four performance at the plate, driving in one while Matt D'Auteuil and Khifer O'Connor each went one for two with a double.

The Saints will play a doubleheader against Bethel College in Fort Myers on Sunday.
