Walker leads women's XC first-years, Saints fifth at Rowan

Ashley Walker finished in 34th place to lead the seventh-ranked St. Lawrence University women's cross country team to fifth place at the 39-team Inter-Regional Border Battle hosted by Rowan in Logan Township, New Jersey, on Saturday morning.

Walker finished the six-kilometer race in 22 minutes, 29.1 seconds, or an average pace of 6:01.9 per mile to post the fastest time of all first-year runners. Allegheny's Emily Forner won the race in 21:05.8.

Johns Hopkins cemented is No. 1 national ranking, placing all five runners in the top 11 spots to win the meet with 33 points. Third-ranked SUNY Geneseo was second with 84 points, while Wesleyan, ranked 33rd, was third with 130 points. Rochester, ranked 22nd nationally, just edged out the Saints, scoring 208 points to St. Lawrence's 220. Tenth-ranked Rensselaer was two points behind the Saints in sixth.

The Saints' top-five runners were separated by just 24.6 seconds, and Walker became the fifth St. Lawrence runner to lead the team in five races this season.
