(Rochester, N.Y.)- Senior Tony Valentin (Perth Amboy, N.J.) scored 18 points but the SUNY Canton men's basketball team ran into a tough defensive Roberts Wesleyan squad as they lost to the Raiders 85-54 in their season-opening game on Saturday in Rochester.
Valentin, who led the Roos in scoring last year, connected on 9 of 12 free throws and also had nine rebounds and three assists.
The Raiders put on a stifling defensive performance as they blocked 21 shots and made nine steals.
Senior Silvon John (Bronx, N.Y.) added 11 points and six rebounds in his first game since the 2008-09 season. Junior Jeff Grenier (Whitehall, N.Y.) chipped in with eight points and eight rebounds and Khalid Vaughn (New York, N.Y.) and Gabriel Fermin (New York, N.Y.) each contributed five points off the bench.
Alif Bland led the Raiders with 18 points and eight blocked shots. Jordan Heath added 13 points, nine rebounds and four blocks.
