Schenectady, NY - Senior goalkeeper Stephanie Collins (Colton, NY) denied nine shots, but the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team was shut down in a 3-0 loss to Liberty League foe Union College Friday afternoon.
The Golden Knights dropped to 4-8 overall and 0-3 in the Liberty League, while Union moved to 10-2 and 2-1. Clarkson will look to get back on the winning track against Skidmore College on Saturday.
Union's Jessica Strang scored two goals to lead the Dutchwomen, but it was Melissa Scinto who tallied the game-winner in the 22nd minute. Scinto picked up a loose ball in a scramble in front of the Clarkson net, and shot it high over a leaping Collins for the 1-0 lead.
Strang notched her fourth goal of the season just a few minutes later at 25:10. Gathering in a rebound off a Melissa McDonald shot in the middle in front of the net. Strang scored an insurance goal in the second half to round out the scoring in the 74th minute. A feed from the midfield by Jackie Trevisani found Strang alone behind a defender, and she buried her second of the day low and to the goalkeeper's right side.
Union enjoyed a 21-7 edge in shots, and had all seven corner kick chances in the contest. Collins made nine saves for Clarkson, while Abby Stohler and Kayla Marti combined for two saves in the shutout.
