Top-ranked RIT downs Clarkson men's lacrosse, 18-7

Rochester, NY – Almost constantly down a man, the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team watched top-ranked RIT go 8-for-10 on man-up opportunities as the Tigers claimed an 18-7 Liberty League win against the Golden Knights on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights dropped their first game of the season, falling to 2-1 on the campaign. RIT remained unbeaten, moving to 4-0. Clarkson will head to Skidmore College next Saturday.

Though RIT and Clarkson traded goals in the first three minutes, the Tigers owned the first half with a dominating effort. RIT led 7-1 after 15 minutes and improved its lead to 11-1 midway through the second quarter with three man-up goals in a stretch of four minutes. The Tigers finished the third quarter with another 4-1 advantage, repeating the second quarter, and led 15-3 through 45 minutes, cruising to the win.

Conor Bartlett and Shane Kilday each scored three points, with Kilday tallying two goals and an assist and Bartlett producing a goal with two helpers. Pierce Currie and Mark Uhlig each added a goal and an assist. Tanner Cioffi scooped up five groundballs and Ryan Gabriel went 9-for-21 on faceoffs with six groundballs.

For RIT, Kyle Killen was a one-man wrecking crew with nine goals and five groundballs. Shawn Nally added five points on two goals and three assists and Ryan Tandy chipped in four points on a goal and three assists. Ben Tackett also added five groundballs and Nate Farrell was nearly unstoppable on faceoffs, winning 15 of 17 chances with seven groundballs.

RIT finished the game with a 46-34 edge in shots, a 33-22 lead in shots on goal and a 48-34 advantage on groundballs. Colin Holt made six saves on 17 shots in the first 30 minutes and Kevin Dyckman made nine saves on 16 chances for the Knights in the second half. Walker Hare allowed just three goals on 12 total shots through the first 45 minutes for RIT, while Holden McDonald stopped six shots and allowed four goals in the final 15 minutes of the contest.
