CANTON — The SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (4-2-1) steamrolled SUNY Canton (3-5) with a 6-1 victory during Wednesday evening's Boyd Jones Cup contest.

Freshman forward Jaci Morr (Monroe, Mich./Monroe) led the Bears with a hat trick in the first half as junior forward Erin McCluskey (Watertown, N.Y./Immaculate Heart), senior captains Kate Clauss (Bloomfield, N.Y./Bloomfield) and Kristin Webster (Schenectady, N.Y./Schalmont) each had their own goals in the second period.

The Roos jumped on the scoreboard with the first goal three minutes into the contest by Karyss Terrance. Canton's goal was their first in five Boyd Jones Cup games. To even up the score, Morr found the back of the net seven minutes later and at the 13:44 mark. Then Morr did it again to put the Bears on top of the Roos, 2-1.

Half way through the first period, Potsdam lined up for a corner kick. Junior midfielder Jess Sterns (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) rocketed the ball cross the top of the box and Morr nailed it home again for the hat trick. The Bears outshot the Roos 13-6 and 7-4 in shots on goal to take the 3-1 lead into the half.

Opening the second half, the Bears didn't slow down. Potsdam added to its lead when McCluskey scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Clauss. A minute later McCluskey returned the favor and Clauss joined in on the fun with her first goal of the season. In the 77th minute, a foul on the Roos caused a penalty kick and Webster put it between the goal posts to wrap up the scoring.

Canton goalkeeper Bernadette O'Connell finished with 10 saves while Bears junior goalkeeper Emily Lapage (Brushton, N.Y./Brushton-Moira) had six saves and got the victory. Potsdam dominated the game throughout. They outshot the Roos 26-16 and doubled up Canton 12-6 in corner kicks.

The Bears are now off for 11 days before they hit the road Sunday, Sept. 28, to face the Plattsburgh Cardinals in their first conference game at 1 p.m.
