POTSDAM — Sophomore forward Olivia Seamans (Bolton Landing, N.Y./Bolton) scored two goals as the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (5-1) defeated visiting Sage Colleges (3-3) 4-1 on Wednesday evening.

Sophomore midfielder Rylie Murray (Berkley, Mich./Berkley) and senior captain Kaylen Van Wagner (Red Hook, N.Y./Hotchkiss) also scored for the Bears.

Potsdam started fast on Wednesday night. After two quick shots to open the game, sophomore forward Brooke Falsion (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) caught a long pass on the right sideline and carried it into the corner.

She sent a cross in front of the net and Seamans drove it home just 5:23 into the contest.

Nearly 28 minutes later, junior forward Jaci Morr (Monroe, Mich./Monroe) broke free at the left side of the box and drove a shot toward the left corner. However, Gators freshman goalie Cassy Robataille (Amsterdam, N.Y./Amsterdam) dove to her right and made the save.

Just 3:49 later, Sage tied the game as senior midfielder Savannah Mason (Wynantskill, N.Y./Averill Park) finished a cross from senior forward Taylor Lynch (Woodstock, N.Y./Saugerties). The teams reached the break tied at 1-1 and the Bears with a 9-3 advantage in shots.

Potsdam broke the game open in the second half with three goals.

At 56:34, Murray launched a corner kick from the left side into the box and the backspin on the ball carried it over the goal line.

In the 63rd minute, Seamans stole the ball away from a Sage defender, charged toward the goal and made it 3-1. Just over eight minutes later, Van Wagner sent a line drive from the top of the box into the back of the net. Freshman midfielder Ciara Norris (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) recorded the assist on the play. Potsdam allowed just two more shots the rest of the way to finish the victory.

In goal, senior Bri Thibeau (Salem, N.Y./Salem) earned her 17th collegiate save with three stops. Robataille made six saves.

The Bears outshot the Gators 18-8 and totaled five corner kicks without allowing one. Next, Potsdam heads to Elmira College on Saturday for a 3 p.m. contest with the Soaring Eagles.
