POTSDAM, N.Y.- SUNY Potsdam’s Eduardo Figueroa was named State University of New York Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. The freshman split the accolade with Dan Josepher of Oneonta.
Figueroa, a Rochester, N.Y. native, scored game winning goals in Potsdam’s home victories versus Oswego on Friday and Cortland on Saturday. He tallied the game’s lone goal in a 1-0 win over the Lakers and recorded a goal and an assist in a 2-0 victory against the Red Dragons. With the wins, the Bears registered their first SUNYAC weekend sweep since October of 2002. For the season, Figueroa leads Potsdam with five goals and 12 points on the season.
“It’s a great accomplishment to have a Potsdam Bear win this award,” said second-year head coach Adam Parker. “We talk to Eduardo about stepping up and having an impact and he did that with the goals he scored.”
Figueroa and the Bears will return to action Friday at 4 p.m. when they travel to Oneonta.
