POTSDAM, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam men’s hockey team fell behind quickly and was unable to recover Saturday, falling to No. 10 Manhattanville 8-0 in a non-conference affair at Maxcy Hall Ice Arena.
The Bears (3-9 overall) committed 14 penalties for a total of 55 minutes, leading to five power-play goals by the Valiants. Junior goaltender Trevor O’Neill (Bobcaygeon, Ontario) made 32 saves in just less than two periods of action, taking the loss.
Manhattanville (8-3-1), which is ranked 10th nationally in the USCHO.com Division III Men’s Poll, scored 14 seconds into the game and four times in the opening period, and didn’t look back. Five consecutive Valiant goals came on the power play.
Potsdam had limited scoring chances against a strong, physical Manhattanville team. For the contest, the Valiants outshot the Bears 45-17.
Following the winter break, the Bears return to the ice on Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, at Neumann. Game time in Aston, Pa., is slated for 7 p.m.
