Castleton, VT – Ben York and Madeline Hewitt led the SUNY Canton men's and women's cross country teams to a pair of third place finishes as the duo finished in sixth and seventh places individually at the Castleton Invitational on Saturday.
Hewitt finished in seventh place out of the 34-runner field covering the 5-kilometer course in 23:44. The top five for the women included Allison Ford (14th), Kaitlyn Trusty (20th), Jillian Rombalski (24th) and Kiersten Harvey (26th).
The Roos finished in third place out of the five-team field with 89 points. Host Castleton won the team title with 19 points, while Green Mountain (60) finished in second.
York paced the Canton men clocking a time of 29:22 over the 8-kilometer trail. Jesse Walley tallied a time of 29:57 (11th) in his first collegiate 8K, while classmate Jeremy Gundrum recorded a time of 31:08 (14th). Josh Godbout and Ryan Yutzler rounded out the top five in 24th and 25th places, respectively.
SUNY Canton finished in third place with 62 points just behind Southern Vermont (56). Castleton won the team title with 27 points.
