(Canton, N.Y.) - Carolina Olivares (Adelanto, Calif.) has been named the Sunrise Conference Player of the Week and Tina DeLuca (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) has been honored as the Sunrise Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Both players were instrumental in the Roos four-game sweep of conference foe Fisher College as they Roos began their quest to defend their conference championship.
Olivares batted a whopping .818 going 9-for-11 in 20 at-bats. The senior first baseman opened the weekend on Saturday going 3-for-3 with five RBIs and two runs and in the nightcap she went 2-for-2 with a double and scored three times. On Sunday, Olivares went 3-for-4 with a double and four runs in game one and then closed out the weekend going 1-for-2 with two runs in the second game. Olivares leads the team in batting (.532), runs scored (16), hits (25), doubles (7), and RBIs (18).
DeLuca domianted the Falcons on the mound as she struck out four batters and gave up nine hits in a doubleheader sweep on Saturday. The sophomore hurler recorded five more strikeouts while limiting the Falcons to seven hits in a pair of shutout performances on Sunday and Deluca didn’t allow a single walk in 18 innings. Deluca has recorded a team-leading 15 strikeouts this season and has walked just eight batters in 66 2/3 innings.
