CANTON -- The SUNY Canton women' soccer team will begin a new era in 2014 as second year Head Coach Sarah Arsenault brings in 15 new players in her first full recruiting class.

Although the team returns just four players to the roster they are key contributors all around the field.

"We are a very young team this year, with only four returning players," Coach Arsenault noted. "However, I believe the experience and passion our returners bring to the table combined with the exciting buzz of energy and talent of our 15 incoming players, has created a team with a lot of potential to reach post-season play this year."

The Roos will feature three captains in midfielder Tressa Goolden, midfielder Fran Trombley and forward Karyss Terrance. The three captains bring a combined seven years of collegiate soccer experience into this season.

Below is what Coach Arsenault is expecting from each of her captains.

Tressa Goolden – "As the team's only senior, Tressa has been an important staple in this program since she arrived here at SUNY Canton. I believe her experience, drive and knowledge of the game will help the team reach new levels this season."

Fran Trombley – "Fran's passion, dedication and positive attitude sets her apart every time she steps on the field. Her teammates look up to her not only as a talented player but also as a leader. I believe she will lead this team to success on and off the field."

Karyss Terrance – "Karyss' physicality and ability to put the ball in the back of the net from 30 yards out will be a great contribution to the team. I am expecting great things from Karyss as a forward this year. I also believe that her vocal leadership will help us tremendously."

Another valuable addition to the roster will be junior Brittany Pierce. "Returning from the 2012 season where she scored four goals as a freshman, Brittany is expected to contribute to our offense as she returns to the field for the 2014 season," Arsenault said. "We have seen great things from her throughout pre-season and look forward to watching it continue into the regular season."

Coach Arsenault is expecting big contributions particularly from three of her incoming recruits: Bailey Grace, Katie Lamica and Kristina DiNardo. Read below to see what exactly Coach Arsenault is expecting out of three first year Roo players.

Bailey Grace – "Bailey comes to us as a freshman from Rochester, NY. We are very impressed with her tactical awareness and ability to win balls in the back. I am excited to have Bailey as part of our program and expect her to contribute tremendously to our success this season.

Katie Lamica – "Katie comes to us from Malone, NY. She is a very talented player with great vision in the middle of the field. I am expecting Katie to step-up as a center midfielder and contribute to creating more offense for our team."

Kristina DiNardo - Kristina comes to us from Ottawa, Ontario. I believe her speed and technical ability will add a lot of versatility to our midfield."

In addition to several new pieces all over the field, the Roos coaching staff also welcomes a new member.

"I am also excited to be adding Katlyn Hart, a four-year player here at SUNY Canton, to the coaching staff this season," Arsenault noted. "As a 2013 USCAA All-American, I believe her knowledge and passion for the game will make her as much of an asset to the coaching staff as she was to the women's soccer program as a player."

Hart finished her career starting 42 of the 70 games she appeared in while posting 41 points on 16 goals and nine assists. Her numbers dramatically improved during her season where she found the back of the net a team-leading 10 times and dished out six assists.

With four key returners and 15 strong additions looking to make an impact the 2014 women's soccer team will look to have a productive season as they open play on Saturday at home against Paul Smith's College.

"The team morale is very positive, which is an important change that we needed," Arsenault said. "I look forward to working with this group of talented players and watching them grow as a team."
