Canton, NY – Allison Wakefield stopped 9 of the 10 shots she faced but Sydney Morton scored a goal in the 49th minute to lift Husson University to a 1-0 win v. SUNY Canton in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener for both teams on Saturday.
The Eagles improve to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in NAC play, while the Roos drop to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in conference competition.
Neither team found the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes as Husson held a 4-2 shots on goal in the opening half.
The Eagles broke through in the 49th minute when Sydney Morton took advantage of a misplay by the Roos defense as she settled the ball and finished into the left corner of net. The Morton goal would be all Husson would need to secure its first win of the season.
Wakefield made nine saves in net before moving to the field. Sami Ireland stopped two shots in the shutout for the Eagles.
The women's soccer team returns to the pitch on Wednesday when it hosts Clarkson University at 5:30 p.m.
