Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's lacrosse team sent its four seniors out in thrilling fashion with a hard fought 8-6 victory against visiting SUNY Poly to set the program record with their 11th win of the season on Sunday.

The Roos (11-4), winners of eight of their last nine, scored five of the first six goals of the contest and opened up a 5-2 halftime lead. Senior Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, ON) found the back of the net twice and assisted two other goals in the opening 30 minutes. Katelynn Nutter (Carthage, NY), Hannah Christiansen (Lake View, NY) and MaryClare Bowes (Irondequoit, NY) also scored, while senior Devyn Hutcheson (Oswego, NY) dished out a pair of first half assists.

SUNY Canton opened its largest lead of the game at five after Carroll and Hutcheson caged back-to-back scores 1:30 apart early on in the second stanza. The Wildcats (9-2) slotted four of the next five goals to trim the deficit to 8-6 with 1:48 remaining, but the Roos defense locked down in the closing minutes to secure the victory.

The seniors led the way as Carroll posted game-highs of six points, four goals, three caused turnovers and seven draw controls. Hutcheson finished with a game-high three assists to go with her lone score and also picked up three ground balls and forced two turnovers.

Becca Kieffer (Lee Center, NY) turned aside 10 of the 16 shots she faced, while Megan Will made 11 stops for SUNY Poly.

The Roos honored their four seniors: Paige Hart, Keri Dempsey, Devyn Hutcheson and Robyn Carroll prior today's game. Hart transferred from Jefferson Community College, while Dempsey, Hutcheson and Carroll have all played four years for the Roos. The three four-year players are a combined 35-23 in their four seasons including improving their win total during all four seasons. The team is 21-9 over its last two seasons and 30-14 over the last three years.

The women's lacrosse team closes out the regular season on Saturday when it visits Buffalo State College at 3 p.m.
