Canton, NY – Desiree Pryce and Brittany Staltare both had multi-hit games in the opener but the SUNY Canton softball team dropped a doubleheader to visiting Houghton College by scores of 13-3 and 16-1 on Tuesday.
The wins improve the Highlanders to 10-20, while the Roos drop to 7-9.
Game 1
Pryce and Staltare posted two hits each in the opener while Staltare drove in a pair of runs. Brittany Miner drove in the other SUNY Canton run, while Miner, Jaedyn Ossont, Valerie Clark and Stefanie Miller also had hits.
Leading 4-1 after three innings the Highlanders used a six run fourth inning to break open the game earning the 13-3 win in six innings.
Kaylee Jentsch earned the win tossing four innings giving up three earned runs, while Nicole Woodward took the loss throwing six innings.
Game 2
Houghton erupted four 11 runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth inning to earn the sweep. Courtney Hyland, Clark and Miller posted hits for the Roos with Clark driving in the lone run.
Tanya Hatton earned the win on the mound tossing four innings giving up one earned run on three hits. Kelsey White took the loss pitching four innings.
The softball team is back in action on Thursday when it visits Lyndon State College for a doubleheader at 3:30 p.m.
