HOW IT HAPPENED

Mayette had a hand in all three Canton goals with one score and a pair of helpers. Tyson Bruce tallied a goal and assist, while Zach Pease recorded a pair of assists.

Michael Cerasuolo was outstanding throughout stopping 32 of the 33 shots he faced.

The Roos got on the board first at 3:26 of the first period. Jake Mayette deflected the puck from a Plattsburgh skater in their defensive zone right to Adam Petric who beat Cardinal net minder Lawson Fenton over the blocker. Canton led a 1-0 lead after one.

Canton doubled the lead at 6:44 of the second period when Tyson Bruce won the puck at the far boards at center ice where Zach Pease left the puck for Mayette. Mayette rifled a shot across the face of goal beating Fenton glove side for the 2-0 lead.

Plattsburgh responded two minutes later when Jesse Neher won the puck at the far boards near the right circle. He cycled the puck low to Ross Sloan who found Joe Drabin in the slot beating Roos goaltender Michael Cerasuolo through the five-hole.

Canton was whistled for four penalties in the second period but the Roos penalty kill unit went 4-for-4 and Cerasuolo made 16 saves in the middle period to keep the hosts on top 2-1 after two.

The Roos added a key insurance goal at 10:13 of the third period. Zach Pease won the puck at the top of the left circle hitting Mayette with a pass at the right circle. Mayette centered a pass for Bruce in the slot who one-timed a shot past the stick of Jimmy Poreda.

Fenton made eight stops in the start, while Poreda turned aside 11 shots in relief.

Canton went 6-for-6 on the penalty kill and 0-for-2 on the power play.
