Canton, NY – Sean David scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season to tie the game in the third period and the SUNY Canton men's hockey team finished off an unbeaten weekend against No. 14 nationally-ranked Fredonia with a 1-1 tie on Saturday afternoon.
THE BASICS
Result: SUNY Canton 1, Fredonia 1
Location: Roos House – Canton, NY
Records: SUNY Canton (4-5-2) | No. 14 Fredonia (8-2-2)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Michael Cerasuolo made 13 first period saves and the Roos killed off their lone penalty as the teams skated to first intermission tied at 0.
Neither team found the back of the net in the middle period as the Roos outshot Fredonia 9-5 and both teams penalty kill units killed off a pair of infractions including 11 seconds of 5-on-3 for the Roos.
Fredonia opened the scoring at 6:22 of the third period when Jasper Korican-Barlay won a faceoff at the left circle back to Todd Schauss. His shot beat Cerasuolo through the five-hole for the 1-0 lead.
Canton answered back just over two minutes later when David Hopfer fed a pass up the far boards that was picked up by David. David and Jake Mayette executed a perfect give-and-go fooling Fredonia goaltender Justin Crawford as David placed the return pass into the wide open net. The Roos held an 11-8 shots advantage in the third period as the teams skated to overtime.
Neither team found the back of the net in overtime as Cerasuolo stopped all three shots he faced to preserve the tie.
Cerasuolo finished with 28 saves for the game, while Crawford made 27 stops for Fredonia
