Rome, NY – Collin Trathen threw a complete game limiting the St. John Fisher bats to two runs in the opener and Travis Schindler recorded three hits in the nightcap but the SUNY Canton baseball team dropped a doubleheader to the Cardinals 2-0 and 10-1 on Tuesday evening at DeLutis Field.
The wins improve the Cardinals to 23-9 overall and 11-3 in Empire 8 play, while the losses drop the Roos to 6-23 and 3-9.
Game 1
Collin Trathen gave up just five hits on the mound and shut down the Fisher bats not allowing a run until the top of the seventh. Joseph Dwy, Fernando Santana and Edward Malinoski, Jr. each posted hits for the Roos.
The Cardinals scored two runs in the seventh when Stephen Edgett scored after Scott Eisenmenger was hit by a pitch and Ryan Fahy brought home Justin Graham after being walked.
Game 2
The Roos took an early lead in the nightcap as Travis Schindler opened the first inning on a single through the left side moved to second on a Joseph Dwy sacrifice and scored on a wild pitch and throwing error.
The Cardinals took the lead with two runs in the second inning and three each in the fourth and eighth innings to secure the 8-1 win. Schindler led the Roos with three of the team's four hits, while Brandon Bautista also had a single and Wilson Matos walked twice.
Matt Toohey earned the win tossing three innings of one hit ball with three strike outs in relief. Anthony Tur took the loss for SUNY Canton giving up four earned runs on five hits and three walks in three innings.
The baseball team is back in action on Thursday when it visits Clarkson University at 4 p.m.
