SUNY Canton baseball comeback falls just short at Houghton

Houghton, NY – Collin Lynk and Travis Schindler posted two hits each as the Roos outhit Houghton 8-6 but the host Highlanders earned a 5-4 Empire 8 win v. SUNY Canton on Friday evening.

The Roos (4-15, 1-3 E8) got on the board first with two runs in the top of the fourth as Brandon Bautista reached on an error by the third baseman scoring Brett Hoberman. Lynk followed with legging out an RBI single to short to plate Bautista.

The Highlanders (10-11, 3-5 E8) got one back in the fourth and took the lead for good with two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings.

Canton got within one scoring a pair of runs in the eighth inning. Lynk singled to right field to score Schindler and Dwy followed with an RBI base hit to bring home Brian Santana.

The Roos moved the tying and leading runs into scoring position with two outs in the ninth but a strike out ended the comeback bid.

Jake Vierno tossed five innings giving up one earned run with six strike outs but walked six batters.

These two teams are scheduled for a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
