Canton, NY – Jordan Stewart paced the Roos with 14 points but the SUNY Canton men's basketball team fell 66-53 to visiting University of Maine Presque Isle on Saturday afternoon.
The Roos (5-13) used a 6-0 run to open up an eight point lead at 29-21 and they would take that eight point lead into intermission at 32-24. The first half saw three ties and five lead changes. Brandon Adkisson and Danny Santana led Canton with seven points apiece.
The Owls (8-9) doubled up the Roos 42-21 in the second half to earn a 66-53 victory.
Stewart paced the Roos with 14 points, while Santana added 12 and Joseph Werner totaled six points and 12 rebounds.
Kevin Collins paced UMPI with 21 points, while Anthony Chacho (12) and Maurice Harris (11) also scored in double figures.
Both teams struggled from the field as Canton hit just 27 percent of its field goals and the Owls hit 39 percent of their shots but knocked down eight three-pointers (8-for-20). The Roos bench outscored the Owls reserves 20-9 but UMPI held a 28-18 advantage in points in the paint.
The men's basketball team is back in action on Tuesday when it hosts SUNY Delhi at 7 p.m.
