After getting a pair of three-set victories from John Megas and Robert Schmitz to take a 4-3 lead, the Saints dropped both the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matchups to fall to Hobart 5-4 in the quarterfinal round of the Liberty League tournament. St. Lawrence finishes the season with a 9-9 record.
The Saints carried a 2-1 lead into singles play with Paul Barrett and Tom Luchars picking up the first win of the day for the Scarlet and Brown doubling up Hobart's third doubles combo 8-4, before Rhonny Rosario and Megas broke a 1-1 tie with an 8-5 win in the second spot.
Hobart pulled ahead 3-2 with wins at No. 1 and No. 4 at singles, but Megas battled back from dropping the first set against the Statesmen's Michael Rusk 4-6 at No. 2 to win the next two 6-4, 6-1 to tie things up.
Schmitz, who also rebounded from a first set loss, was next to finish at No. 3 as he prevailed over Matt DePrima for a 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 win to put the Saints on top 4-3, but that would be the extent of the Saints scoring on the afternoon.
With the win, the Statesmen advance to face Skidmore in the semifinals of the Liberty League Tournament in Rochester on Saturday.
