Delhi, NY – Brittany Staltare went 8-for-9 with a home run and drove in five runs, while Courtney Hyland finished with 6 RBI in the opener as the SUNY Canton softball team swept host SUNY Delhi by scores of 17-8 and 7-6 on Saturday.
With the wins SUNY Canton improves to 5-7, while the Broncos drop to 0-21.
Game 1
The Roos exploded for 17 runs on 22 hits including a seven run third inning to earn a 17-8 victory in the opener. Hyland led the bats going 4-for-5 coming up a home run short of the cycle as she drove in six runs. Staltare went 4-for-5 with three runs and drove in two more, while Valerie Clark finished with three hits.
Jaedyn Ossont, Raechel Yost, Desiree Pryce, Alicia Evans and Brittany Miner all posted multiple hits, while Staltare and Clark drove in a pair of runs.
Nicole Woodward earned the win on the mound striking out four batters while surrendering seven walks and seven earned runs in seven innings.
Game 2
SUNY Canton posted five runs in the first inning but the Broncos responded with six runs in the first and second innings to take a 6-5 lead. The Roos rallied scoring one run in the fifth and the game-winning run in the top of the seventh on Staltare's home run to earn the sweep.
Staltare went a perfect 4-for-4 with a home run and double coming up just a triple short of the cycle as she drove in three runs. Hyland and Miner finished with two hits and an RBI each and Stefanie Miller finished with an RBI. Evans and Pryce also doubled.
Woodward earned her second win of the day tossing five innings in relief striking out five batters on just two hits without giving up a run.
These two teams will play another doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 12 p.m.
