Three special teams' goals in the second period helped No. 17 Union to a 4-1 win over the St. Lawrence University men's hockey team on Friday night in Schenectady, New York.

Union led 1-0 after the first period and went up 3-0 in the second with the help of two straight power play goals, including a 5-on-3 tally before the Saints' got on the board.

Michael Ederer notched the Saints' lone goal of the night on a St. Lawrence 5-on-3 power play opportunity at 14:10 of the second to cut the deficit to 3-1, but Union responded 37 seconds later with a shorthanded tally to regain a three-goal lead and push the eventual 4-1 margin.

Starter Arthur Brey made 31 saves in just under 31 minutes between the pipes for the Saints and was relieved by Daniel Mannella after Union's third goal. Mannella finished with 14 saves in the final 29 minutes of play.

With the loss, the Saints fall to 1-6-0 on the season and 0-1-0 in ECAC Hockey games, while the nationally-ranked Dutchmen improve to 5-2-1 and pick up their first conference win to move to 1-2-0 against ECAC Hockey opponents.

Jack Adams scored his first of two on the night for the Dutchmen – and the game's only even-strength goal – at 17:42 of the first period when he finished a cross-crease pass from Sebastian Vidmar on the far post.

He extended the lead to 2-0 with the first of two Union power play goals at the 9:54 mark of the second period. Vas Kolias hit Adams streaking through the slot on rush into the Saints zone for a one-time finish during the 5-on-3 man advantage.

Just over a minute later, Brandon Estes found the loose puck after a lengthy scrum for control in front of Brey and put a shot high over his right shoulder to make it 3-0 in favor of Union.

The Saints were given a 5-on-3 opportunity of their own three minutes later and it took Ederer and the Saints' top unit just 37 seconds to cash in for the goal.

David Jankowski's shot from the high slot was initially saved by Union's Jake Kupsky, but Ederer was waiting on the near post to roof the rebound and make it a 3-1 game. The assist is Jankowski's first collegiate point, while Jake Stevens picked up his third helper of the season with the secondary.

Union's Ryan Walker concluded the scoring at 14:47 of the second when he beat Mannella with a quick wrister from the bottom of the right circle off a rush.

The Saints were outshot 49-20 on Friday night and finished 1-for-5 on the power play. Union finished 2-for-6 with the man advantage.

Kupsky finished with 19 saves in the win for the Dutchmen.

St. Lawrence will look to rebound and pick up its first ECAC Hockey points on Saturday night against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) at the Houston Field House in Troy, New York. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
