Rachael Smith scored a goal and added three assists, and Sonjia Shelly made 27 saves to record her fourth shutout of the season to lead the eighth-ranked St. Lawrence University women's hockey team to a 5-0 win in the final regular season game of the season on Saturday afternoon at Appleton Arena.

The Saints welcomed former St. Lawrence men's hockey coach, Joe Marsh, who served as Dartmouth's interim women's hockey coach this season, back to Appleton Arena in a brief ceremony before the second period, and also honored the four members of the senior class at the conclusion of the game.

All four seniors, in fact, managed to get on the score sheet, with Amanda McClure (pictured above) leading the way with a goal and an assist. Hannah Miller scored the game's final goal with 16.9 seconds to play off assists from Kennedy Marchment and Michelle Alonardo.

"That was a good way to finish off the regular season," said St. Lawrence head coach Chris Wells '92. "We had a lot of players involved on the score sheet and on the ice tonight."

Kayla Nielsen, who had a goal and two assists, got the Saints on the board first, scoring a power play goal on a give-and-go with Smith just over five minutes into the game. Skylar Podvey gave the Saints a 2-0 lead with just over a minute left in the first on a wrist shot through a screen from the point.

Smith scored on a rebound off a shot by Justine Reyes to give the Saints a three-goal lead in the middle stages of the second period, then set up a power play goal less than three minutes later, sliding a pass through the top of the crease to McClure, who one-timed a shot into the wide-open net.

St. Lawrence had a 34-27 edge in shots on goal, but Dartmouth actually outshot the Saints after the first period, 21-19. Shelly made a number of outstanding saves, including a blocker save on a breakaway by Dartmouth's leading goal scorer, Tess Bracken, late in the second period.

The Saints, now 18-10-4 overall and 14-6-2 in ECAC Hockey, are the No. 4 seed in the conference playoffs and will host Quinnipiac in a quarterfinal series next weekend at Appleton Arena. Game 1 will at 3 p.m. on Friday, with Game 2 slated for a 2 p.m. opening faceoff on Saturday. Game 3, if necessary, will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Dartmouth finished the season 5-19-3, 3-16-3.
