Plattsburgh, NY – Kyle Smith (Evans Mills, NY) scored his fourth goal of the season to trim the deficit to one but host Plattsburgh State earned a 4-1 victory on Tuesday evening.
Nicholas Laurent got the Cardinals (12-5-1) on the board just 58 seconds into the contests she he fired a low shot across the face of goal toward the right post for the early lead. Sean Cray added his second of the season just over two minutes later off passes from Jah-heem Lawitz and Nicholas Laurent to double the Plattsburgh lead.
The Roos cut the lead in half in the 17th minute after Plattsburgh was whistled for a foul in the box. Smith stepped up and buried his second goal in three games.
Plattsburgh was quick to respond as just 12 seconds later Laurent played Chris Bowden in on a pass from the kickoff as he slotted home his fourth goal of the season. The Cardinals took a 3-1 lead into intermission.
SUNY Canton looked to trim the lead to one once again but Laurent added an insurance marker in the 62nd minute as Laurent completed the five point night off the set up from Chris Robertson for the 4-1 final.
Mouhammed Thiam (New York, NY) made one save in the first half, while Austin Lamay (Malone, NY) stopped six of the seven shots he faced after halftime. Andrew LaClaustra allowed one goal in the opening half in the win, while Kiernan Kirby made all four saves he faced in the closing 45 minutes.
This closes out the 2016 regular season for the SUNY Canton men's soccer team.
