The St. Lawrence University women's tennis team concluded its 2010 fall season ranked No. 17 in the Northeast as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Thursday.
The fall season was highlighted by the doubles play of junior Hillary Drewry and senior Stephanie Finn who won the 2010 Division III New York State Championship doubles title. The duo defeated RIT's Maitevera Antelo and Amanda Berg 8-3 in the First Doubles final.
At the ITA Regionals, Finn and Drewry also defeated two seeded teams to make it to the final round. They were just the third team in school history to make it to the finals at that tournament.
In singles play, Finn went 6-3 while Drewry went 8-3. Drewry led the Saints at the ITA Championships defeated her opponent in first round singles 6-3, 6-1 and then went on to beat Amanda Slack of William Smith 6-2, 6-0 in the second round. She then fell to #15 Lia Weiner (UR) 6-2, 6-3 in the third round.
Sophomore Justine Rusk went 6-2 in singles play during the fall season. At the NYS Championships she defeated opponents from Hartwick and Brockport before falling to Liza Mijovic (NYU) 6-3, 6-3 in the sixth singles semifinals.
The tennis teams will be back in action in March, when they travel to Orlando, FL over spring break to compete in a series of matches before starting their seasons at Ithaca College on the 26th.
