POTSDAM, N.Y.- College at Brockport (5-10, 3-5 SUNYAC) rolls in second half to take down SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (1-14, 0-8 SUNYAC) 71-48 at Vlogianitis Gym Friday night. Senior captain Bailey Weigel (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) finished with 19 points and nine rebounds to lead the Bears, while Brockport's Olivia Suhr matched Weigel's 19 points to push the Golden Eagles past Potsdam.
Brockport hit the ground running to start the contest with a 7-0 run that was snapped when senior guard Carli Reynolds (Indian Lake, N.Y./Indian Lake) hit a layup to get the Bears on the board. The Bears answered with an 8-1 run that was capped with a 3-pointer from Weigel. Her three gave the Bears a two-point lead with less than 10 minutes to go. Both team exchanged baskets the rest of the half and the Golden Eagles took the one point advantage into halftime.
Brockport jumped on the Bears right out of the gate going on a 16-2 run and the Golden Eagles never looked back. Weigel combined for 11 points and eight boards and Reynolds added nine points in the second half, but it wasn't enough to keep up with Brockport. The Golden Eagles finished 62.07-percent from the floor in the second half and took the 71-48 win.
Reynolds finished with 14 points and junior Katie LaVoie (Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy) added eight points and four rebounds.
The Bears are back in action tomorrow when they travel to SUNY Geneseo to take on the Blue Knights at 4 p.m.
