The St. Lawrence University softball team had an impressive day in Ft. Myers, FL today, sweeping Smith College 8-0 and Salem State 9-2.  Senior Meg Goodemote pitched a complete game shutout against the Pioneers, while going 3-for-7 with a triple, two runs, and five RBIs on the day. 

The Saints started the game off strong, scoring seven of their eight runs in the first two innings.  Senior Melissa Rogers went 1-for-1 and drew two walks.  She crossed the plate for a third time in the bottom of the fourth to give the Saints an 8-0 advantage and end the game in five innings.  Goodemote pitched a two hitter, while striking out five and walking only two batters to improve to 1-1.

In the second game, St. Lawrence would strike first when senior Rachel Duffany plated Rogers and Goodemote on a base hit to left field to give the Saints an early 2-0 advantage in the second inning. 

Salem State would respond in similar fashion, as Jenna Lentine batted in two runs on a single to left field to knot the score at 2-2.  Early in the third inning, first-year student Leslie Stratton recorded a base hit to left field, followed by sophomore Lauren Weisbarth who reached on a Salem State error.  Rogers was walked to load the bases for Goodemote who drilled a bases clearing triple down the left field line to put the Saints back up 5-2. 

The Saints, with Duffany on the mound, would not let down defensively as they held Salem State scoreless for the remaining five innings.  The Scarlet and Brown added a run in fourth inning when first-year student Becky Allen was plated by sophomore Chelsea Cavellier's single to left field to bring the score to 6-2. 

St. Lawrence tacked on insurance runs in the seventh when Cavellier, Rogers and sophomore Liz McGinley crossed the plate. 

Against Salem State, Duffany finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and earned the win to improve to 2-1 on the season.  Rogers went 1-for-2, scoring three runs, and Goodemote and Cavellier both went 2-for-4, with three and one RBIs, respectively. 

The Saints have the day off on Tuesday and will battle Washington College and Fredonia State on Wednesday.
