Second half run powers Skidmore women's lax past Saints

Kayla Schmalz led the St. Lawrence women's lacrosse team with a hat trick on Saturday afternoon, but Skidmore scored 10 unanswered goals in the second half to beat the Saints 13-6 in a Liberty League matchup on Wachenheim Field in Saratoga Springs, New York.

Schmalz also added an assist for four points on the afternoon, while Campbell Armstrong added two goals for the Saints and Emma Jewett tallied one. Greta Massey led the team with four ground balls and Jacqueline Sovie had a team-high four caused turnovers.

The team's traded goals in the first half and went into halftime tied at 3-3. Armstrong scored the first two goals of the game before Schmalz notched the tying goal with 8:21 to play in the first half on a man-up opportunity.

The Saints scored three straight in the first five minutes of the second half, including two in a span of 18 seconds, to take a 6-3 lead. However, just over two minutes after Schamlz's third of the day, the Thoroughbreds got a goal from Lilla Seymour to spark their 10-goal run.

Emily Hirsch tied the game with 14:38 remaining and Amanda Orvis scored the game-winning goal for Skidmore at 13:24. Both Hirsch and Orvis were among the five Skidmore players to finish with two goals on the afternoon.

The Saints' Olga Lukas finished with 11 saves, while Caroline Kenlon stopped 13 for Skidmore.
