POTSDAM --Oswego State (10-11, 7-7 SUNYAC) withstood a late charge from the SUNY Potsdam men's basketball (10-12, 5-10 SUNYAC) to hang on for an 68-62 victory on Saturday afternoon. Junior forward Serigne Kane (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brookyln Prep) led the Bears with 17 points and five rebounds. Tyler Pierre had the team-high 19 points and nine rebounds for the Lakers.

Pierre got a put back layup to give Oswego an early 2-0 lead, however on the very next possession Kane put Potsdam up with a three-pointer. Throughout the first half both teams had small runs, but could not pull away from the other. Down 22-19, sophomore guard Aaron Armstrong (Libson, N.Y./Madrid-Waddington) hit a three to spark 16-4 stretch to end the half up 35-26. The Bears went made all four of their three's during the run, with senior captain Kevin Baksh (Queens, N.Y./Richmond Hill) sinking two of them.

The Lakers came out of the second half shooting 10-14 from the field as they went on a 23-3 run to take a 49-38 lead. Jamir Ferebee scored the final 10 points for Oswego during the push. Kane converted a three-point play to halt the Lakers' run, while also starting an 11-2 run for the Bears. Kane, Baksh, and junior guard Dante Langley (Shuylerville, N.Y./Schuylerville) were the only players to score during the stretch. Despite the run, Potsdam was unable to take the lead with 8:30 to play. With several points coming from Langley and junior forward Nosa Onabor (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Prep), the Bears finally jumped in front 59-58 with 5:34 remaining. Oswego went on to score the next six points, to take a five-point lead with 3:30 left. Forty seconds later Armstrong went one-for-two from the charity stripe to narrow the deficit to two. Potsdam remained scoreless for the final 2:50, while Oswego scored a few more to notch a 68-62 victory.

Langley finished with 15 points and five rebounds, and Baksh ended with 10 points and two boards.

Brandan Gartland and Ferebee both had 16 points, while Ian Schupp finished with 11.

Potsdam shot 40-percent from 3-point range, while Oswego shot-38.5 percent. The Lakers outrebounded the Bears 41-25.
