St. Lawrence University's women's cross country team has matched its highest position ever in the USTFCCCA national rankings and will be favored heading into its next meet, the New York State Collegiate Track Conference championships, to be run Oct. 25 at St. John Fisher College.
The Saints, who were idle last week, jumped one spot in the rankings and are currently number two in the nation. The Saints were ranked second for all but one week in the 2010 season. Ranked 20th in the pre-season poll this season, the Saints jumped to third after a strong showing at the Saratoga Invitational. Johns Hopkins has been on top of the Division III women's poll since the start of the pre-season. MIT, last week's number two, dropped to fourth while Middlebury moved up to third.
St. Lawrence has won the last six NYSCTC cross country championships as a team and has had five of the last six individual champions. The Saints are favored to win their seventh straight as a team and senior Cassia Hameline will be among the favorites to capture the individual title as she has led the Saints in every race thus far this season and has two wins and a second in Division III competition.
