Saints women's basketball opens second half with 78-53 win at Brockport

Five members of the St. Lawrence women's basketball team reached double figures on Tuesday afternoon, as the Saints would erase an early nine-point deficit and defeat Brockport 78-53 in their first game following the holiday break. With the win the Saints improve to 5-2 on the year, while the Golden Eagles fall to 2-5.

First-year Shayna Davner was five-of-seven from the floor and three-for-three beyond the arch to finish with a team-high 13 points. Senior Kara McDuffee, sophomore Caroline Dalton and first-year Jenny Scudder each tallied 11 points, while Kaelyn Kohlasch posted a career-high 10 points for St. Lawrence.

Brockport held the Saints to just one field goal for the first five minutes of the game and led 15-6 eight minutes in. The team's traded the lead in the final minutes of the first half before entering the break with St. Lawrence leading 37-30.

The Scarlet and Brown shot 51 percent from the floor in the second half and went on a 14-0 run over a five-minute span to help secure the win. The Saints finished with 28 points in the paint and 19 off turnovers.

Dalton grabbed a game high nine rebounds for the Saints. Brockport's Olivia Suhr led all scorers with 19 points.

The Saints will open Liberty League play in Troy, N.Y. against the Engineers of RPI on Friday, Jan. 2 at 6 p.m.
