First-year Katie Frederick and junior Meghan Hynes netted double digits as the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team earned its sixth-straight win of the season defeating Union 72-53 in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon in Burkman Gymnasium.

Frederick led the Saints with 14 points, shooting 5-for-8 from the field, and four rebounds, while Hynes added 13 points and another four rebounds. Kaelyn Kohlasch and Annabella Pugliese recorded nine points each and grabbed a combined eight rebounds. Kohlasch went 3-for-7 Katie Gallagher posted a team-high four steals.

St. Lawrence's defense, currently ranked ninth in the nation only allowing 44.6 points per game held the Dutchwomen to just 44 percent from the floor and 22 percent from the arc.

The Saints opened play with a quick 7-4 lead off a layup from Gallagher. Hynes extended the Saints' lead to seven with a jump shot at the 2:27 mark of the first frame.

Meghan O'Connor gave the Saints their first double-digit lead of the game midway through the second quarter. Julia Breit gave the Scarlet and Brown a 13-point advantage with just under four minutes to play until the break.

The Scarlet and Brown opened the third quarter with a seven-point run, capped by a layup from Jenny Scudder, and extended their lead to 19 points.

It was all Saints from then on, accumulating at least a 20-point lead for most of the final frame, leading by as much as a 23-point margin down the stretch.

"This was a hard fought game today," said head coach Dan Roiger. "Union played really well against us and gave us some problems with their zone. We got good looks against it from the perimeter, but we didn't shoot it well. We played tired and slow and I think we were physically and mentally exhausted from yesterday. But we battled, took care of the ball, and had a nice advantage on the boards to get a good win."

"It was a 2-0 weekend in our league and that is never easy," Roiger continued. "We keep learning every game and getting better and that is what the season is all about. Next weekend will be just as difficult as this weekend, you have to be ready to play every game in our league."

Union was led by Nicole Conley with 20 points and five rebounds, while Jenni Barra and Alexa Morin added eight points each and combined for 11 rebounds. Corina Lindsay and Joana Santos each recorded six points for the Dutchwomen.

With the win, the Saints wrap up a 3-0 week in conference play having defeated Clarkson on Tuesday and No. 22 Ithaca Friday evening. The Scarlet and Brown improved to 10-4 on the season and 5-2 in league play, while Union dropped to 4-8 and 1-5.

The Saints continue conference play at Burkman Gymnasium on January 19-20, facing off against RIT and William Smith.
