Jethro Dede scored on a hard shot from the top of the box with less than seven minutes remaining in the second half to give the St. Lawrence University men's soccer team a 2-1 come-from-behind win over SUNY Cortland on Saturday afternoon on Sandy MacAllaster Field.

The Saints, ranked fifth in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America national rankings, stayed perfect on the season, improving to 6-0-0 with their third come-from-behind win of the season. The Red Dragons, ranked 22nd, suffered their first defeat of the season, falling to 5-1-0.

Dede's goal, his second of the season, came after Tapshak Augustine received a long ball at the top of the box. He had the ball tapped away from him, but it went right to a streaking Dede, who fired a hard shot to the lower right side of the net. Cortland goalkeeper Joe Brandofino got a piece of the ball, but not enough to stop it completely, as it slowly trickled over the goal line to give the Saints their first lead in the 84th minute.

The Red Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute when Chris Hetter scored on a free kick just outside the box, sending the ball around the right side of the Saints' defensive wall and into the side of the net.

St. Lawrence tied the game late in the first half when Noah Bunton scored on a penalty kick after Manny Collins was fouled in the box.

The Saints outshot Cortland 24-12 and had an 8-7 edge in corner kicks. Brandofino made six saves for Cortland, while Mike Smith made four saves for the win for the Saints.

St. Lawrence will wrap up the non-league portion of its schedule on Tuesday at SUNY Plattsburgh, then hosts Hobart at 3 p.m. next Saturday in the Liberty League opener.
