Saints volleyball team head North after 2-2 weekend

The St. Lawrence University volleyball team concluded its southern trip, splitting in its last two matches in Dallas, TX on Saturday. The Saints, now 17-10 overall (6-2 Liberty League), dropped a tough 3-1 decision to the University of Dallas (21-25, 25-22, 27-25, 25-19) before sweeping Southwestern Christian College, 3-0 (25-10, 25-7, 25-9).

Four Saints posted double figures in kills, as well as digs, though St. Lawrence would suffer the loss. After taking the first set against the Crusaders, the Saints fell by narrow scores in the next three sets. Senior Nyasha Miller led the Saints with 14 kills and 22 digs, while classmates Marta Johann and Liz Grogan added 11 and 10 kills, respectively. First-year student Katy Litka emerged as an offensive threat throughout the weekend, recording 14 kills for a .335 hitting percentage. First-year student Jenna Street dished out 48 assists in the four-set match.

Sophomore Katie Prue, senior Katherine Pierce joined Street and Miller with double figure digs. Prue recorded 20, while Pierce and Street added 15 and 11, respectively. Senior Ali Limoncelli, who recorded six kills against the Crusaders, led the Saint front line with three assisted blocks.

The Saints dominated the second match of the day as Limoncelli lead the way with 10 kills for a .667 hitting percentage. First-year students Ashley Richardson and Aisha O'Connor combined for 13 service aces, while Street recorded 16 assists.

The Saints, who finished the weekend with a 2-2 record, were paced offensively by Miller and Litka who recorded 35 and 34 kills in total, respectively. Grogan and Johann added 21 and 20 kills, while Street tallied 110 assists. Street, along with Pierce led the defense with 41 digs each, while Miller added 39 digs on the weekend.

Heading into its last weekend of Liberty League regular season play, St. Lawrence is currently in second place, while Skidmore, Union and Vassar are close behind. Clarkson is currently at the top of the conference standings.
