After falling to Clarkson to start the day, the St. Lawrence University volleyball team rebounded to score a 3-0 win over Bard to salvage a split on the second day of competition in the first weekend of Liberty League matches Saturday afternoon in Clark Gymnasium at RIT in Rochester.
The Saints (5-8 overall, 1-3 Liberty League) dropped a 3-0 decision to Clarkson by scores of 25-17, 25-19, 25-12. St. Lawrence rebounded to post a 3-0 win over Bard in the second match of the afternoon winning by scores of 25-22, 25-8 and 25-20.
"We did not compete well against Clarkson," said head coach Shelly Roiger. "Our execution had too many breakdowns during the match and we need to be more motivated in the will to compete. We are hopefully learning some things along the way but at the end of the day it comes down to our energy and execution and the confidence and willingness to do both."
In the Clarkson match, Grace Kelly led the way with seven kills and also had a pair of blocks. Masha Kolesnikova and Maddy Ruehl had six kills each while Maddy Bishop led the team with 14 assists and added nine digs. Ally Good led the Saints on defense with 12 digs.
In the Bard match, Kelly registered 14 kills and an impressive .480 attack percentage. She also contributed three aces and six digs. Katie Kull handed out 20 assists. Marissa Parker also had three aces and Good led the team with nine digs.
The Saints return to action next weekend at a tri-match at Middlebury College with matches against Hamilton and Middlebury Saturday.
