St. Lawrence University's men's golf team finished third, 21 strokes off the winning pace, after the 2011 ECAC Upstate and Metro Division III Golf Championship at Blue Heron Hills near Rochester was cut to a one-day tournament due to rain on Sunday.
Senior Ren O'Connor led the Saints with an 81 on the par-72 layout, playing a difficult course under wet and cold conditions. O'Connor was tied for 11th after the first round. John Harris and Jack Reardon each carded 83s and Jeff Duggan and Brandon Lustig shot 88 for the Saints, who had a day one total of 335.
St. John Fisher led the 10-team field with a first round 304 while Elmira is second at 313. New York University and Clarkson are tied for fourth, three strokes behind the Saints.
