Senior goalkeeper Abby van Geldern made eight saves as St. Lawrence University and Rensselaer battled to a double overtime 0-0 tie in Liberty League women's soccer in Troy Saturday afternoon.

The Saints, 6-3-3 overall and 3-1-2 in league play, took three points on their weekend road trip with a 1-0 win over Union on Friday and Saturday's tie. The Saints remain in the thick of the race for a Liberty League playoff spot and are currently third with two games to go in league competition.

RPI outshot the Saints 22-8, but van Geldern kept the Engineers off the board with a solid effort in net and received some help from her defense as one shot was plucked off the line in the second half after the ball got away from the goalkeeper. Corinne Werner, kept zeros on the scoreboard when Rensselaer sophomore striker Giana Abballe played a ball to Sara Rothschild past van Geldern to the edge of the St.Lawrence six, but Rothschild's effort was cleared away by Werner in the 93rd minute.

The Saint goalkeeper made six saves in regulation and one in each of the overtimes to protect the scoreless deadlock. It was the fifth shutout of the year for the Saint senior. Stephanie Vargas had one save for RPI.

The Saints, 5-1-2 in their last eight with the only loss to nationally ranked William Smith, are a point behind third-place RIT in the current Liberty League standings. The two teams will play Saturday in Rochester. The Saints have a four point lead on fifth place Union in the league standings.
