Despite trailing The College at Brockport by 10 with 3:00 minutes to play, the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team rallied and had a shot at the buzzer to tie. However, the last-second bid missed, allowing the Golden Eagles to celebrate a narrow 66-63 non-conference win on Saturday afternoon in Brockport, NY.

The Saints, who outscored both Oswego and Brockport in the second halves this weekend, falls to 0-2 while the home team improved to 1-2 on the young season. The Saints were led by Brady Condlin's 17 points and nine rebounds, while Willie Zachery added 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists. The Saints, who finished a perfect 14-of-14 at the free throw line, also got eight points and two blocks off the bench from Kieran Miller.

Brockport's Clifton Lyerly and Aaron White each scored 19 points for the Golden Eagles, who finished with a 28-24 advantage in points in the paint but managed only 19-of-31 at the free throw line. Daniel Aiello recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

The home team held the lead throughout the entire first half, and though Riley Naclerio hit a three-pointer midway through the frame to pull the Saints within three at 18-15, Brockport pushed its lead back to 11 by intermission. Lyerly did much of the damage for the Golden Eagles, scoring 14 points in the half for the 35-24 lead.

Though Brockport opened up its largest lead at 44-31 just 5:35 into the second half, the Saints responded with an 8-1 run to make it a game behind back-to-back jumpers by Zachery. The teams exchanged blows throughout the half, as Jeremy Mendrick got St. Lawrence within four points thanks to a three with 7:59 to play, only to have Brockport answer with a 5-0 run to stretch the lead back to nine at 54-45.

Consecutive three pointers by Condlin and Zachery inside the final 2:00 minutes lifted St. Lawrence back to within four at 65-61. After two Naclerio free throws brought the score to 66-63, White stepped to the free throw line with a chance to ice it for Brockport with :09 seconds remaining. However, he missed both, giving St. Lawrence a look to tie. Unfortunately for the visitors, Miller's bid at the buzzer missed, allowing the Golden Eagles to escape with the narrow 66-63 victory.

St. Lawrence will be out for its first win of the season next weekend, Saturday and Sunday, November 29 and 30 at the 2014 Hamilton Tournament.
