Saints Nichols, Meng finish 21st in Classic at Colby Carnival

St. Lawrence University's Kelsey Nichols and Austin Meng each finished in 21st place in their respective classic races, leading the Saints Nordic teams at the 2013 Colby Carnival on Saturday afternoon.

Nichols matched her collegiate best finish with a time of 18:53.9 in the 5k Classic. She was joined by rookies Sienna Searles and Cassidy Cichowicz in the scoring, as the trio combined for 53.0 points in ninth place. Searles was 29th overall while Cichowicz followed in 40th.

Erin Perryman (49th), Kate Mulcahy (66th) and Melanie Swick (79th) rounded out the St. Lawrence women's team's line-up.

Meanwhile, Meng picked up a top-25 finish in the men's 10k Classic with a time of 26:41.4. His finish helped the Saints to seventh place overall with 55.0 points, as Will Frielinghaus also turned in a career-best showing in the race. Eric Lustgarten's 33rd place finish closed the scoring for the Scarlet and Brown.

St. Lawrence was also represented in the men's race by Reed Likely (58th), Kyle Curry (60th), James McCatherin (68th), Austin Hart (70th), Matt Dier (71st), Evan Martell (78th) and Phillip Marshall (84th).

The University of New Hampshire won the women's 5k, while UVM's Anja Gruber claimed the individual title. On the men's side, it was Dartmouth College earning the team win with Middlebury's Benjamin Lustgarten earning the solo victory.

The Saints Nordic teams will compete tomorrow, Sunday, January 27 in the 15k and 20k Freestyle races.
