First-year players Leo Romanetz and Jordan Mamelak earned singles wins at No. 2 and No. 6, respectively, but the Saints fell to Vassar, 7-2, in a Liberty League match on Saturday afternoon in Canton, New York.
After Vassar swept doubles, Romanetz notched the first win for St. Lawrence to open singles play, downing Adam Krueger 6-2, 7-5. Vassar then won four straight to clinch the win before Mamelak cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 win over Zamir Birnbach at No. 6.
Spencer Whitmire pushed his match at No. 3 to three sets, as he came back from a loss in the first to win the second 6-2. He was eventually best by the Brewers' Jeremy Auh in the third, 6-0.
Auh won the decisive fifth point to seal the win for Vassar, who snapped a nine-match losing streak against the Saints on Saturday and improved to 4-3 in Liberty League matches.
