On a night dedicated to two of the best former St. Lawrence hockey coaches, the Saints' men's hockey team put together it's best game of the season and downed No. 16 Clarkson, 4-2, at Appleton Arena on Friday night in the first half of an ECAC Hockey home-and-home doubleheader.

First-year Ted McGeen scored his first collegiate goal to get the Saints on the board and Ryan Garvey, David Jankowski and Michael Laidley followed with goals of their own in the win. McGeen and Keenan Suthers led the Saints with two points apiece on Friday night.

Junior Daniel Mannella made a career-high 48 saves, including 19 in both the second and third periods, to earn his first win of the season and help snap a four-game winless slide for the Saints, both on the season and in the series against Clarkson.

With the win, the Saints improve to 3-11-1 on the season with a 1-3-1 mark in conference play. Clarkson drops to 8-6-0 and 2-3-0 against ECAC Hockey opponents.

McGeen's first for the Scarlet and Brown at 4:07 of the first period came of a rush into the zone with Suthers, as he was stopped by Clarkson netminder Jake Kielly, but McGeen's shot from the half wall off the rebound ricocheted off a Clarkson defender on the far post and in for a 1-0 St. Lawrence lead.

Garvey extended the lead to 2-0 at 7:30 of the second period off another rush with Suthers, burying a rebound as Kielly moved left to right for his second of the season.

Clarkson cut the deficit to 2-1 later in the frame with a shorthanded tally from Nico Sturm, as he roofed a shot over Mannella's right shoulder for the Golden Knights' first of the game at 11:41.

But with time winding down in the second, David Jankowski was able to regain the two-goal lead for the Saints with his second against Clarkson this season, which served as Friday's game-winning goal.

Jankowski picked up the puck at the top of the offensive zone after a long chip from captain Dylan Woolf was mishandled by the Clarkson defense and pushed it over to McGeen on the left-wing side. Rather than shoot, McGeen slipped a pass between a pair of defenders to Jankowski on the far post for a one-time finish behind Kielly at 18:28.

Early in the third, Clarkson cut the deficit to one goal once again when Haralds Egle dug the puck out a scrum along the end boards and weaved through the Saints' defense before waiting out Mannella for a forehand tuck inside the far post at 5:20.

Senior Michael Laidley gave the Saints some breathing room with 5:50 to play when he ripped a one-time shot from a knee in the slot and beat Kielly high blocker to push to the final 4-2 margin. Rookies Carson Dimoff and Kaden Pickering assisted on the play.

Clarkson pulled Kielly for the extra attacker with 2:38 remaining in regulation and kept the Saints pinned in their defensive zone for a majority of that time, but weren't able to put one behind Mannella to close the gap or find the equalizer.

Clarkson finished with a 50-30 advantage in shots on goal. Both teams failed convert on the power play on Friday night.

The Saints will travel to Cheel Arena for the second half of this weekend's home-and-home for a 7 p.m. puck drop on Saturday night.

St. Lawrence inducted the newest Legends of Appleton Paul Flanagan '80 and Mike McShane during an on-ice ceremony following the first period on Friday night. Flanagan and McShane join inaugural Legends Brian McFarlane '55 and Bill Torrey '57, who were recognized in October 2017.
