A comeback bid for the St. Lawrence men's hockey team fell just short on Friday night, as the Saints lost to visiting Dartmouth 3-2 in Appleton Arena. It is the third one-goal loss for St. Lawrence in as many games.

Nolan Gluchowski scored his first of the year in the second period, while Carson Gicewicz added his fourth in the third. Both goals cut the St. Lawrence deficit to one goal at the time.

With the loss, the Saints fall to 4-17-2 and 0-10-1 in ECAC Hockey, while Dartmouth moves to 7-10-2 and 5-6-1 against league opponents.

Despite finding themselves in a 2-0 hole after a first period goal from Dartmouth's Charley Michalowski and an early second period tally from Shane Sellar, the Saints continued to chip away and finally got a bounce on Gluchowski's goal.

At the 6:06 mark of the middle frame, Cade Gleekel won a draw back to the point for the Wixom, Michigan native who ripped a slap shot from the right side. While it looked like it may have hit a stick on the way to the net, it actually skipped off netminder Devin Buffalo's stick and over his right pad into the net for a 2-1 game in favor of the visitors.

It is the first goal for Gluchowski, who leads the Saints with 12 assists this season, since January 28, 2017 in the team's win over Union.

The Saints went down 3-1 on the eventual game-winning goal from Alex Jasiek on the power play. Jasiek waited out the St. Lawrence defenders and put a shot bar down over Arthur Brey's right shoulder at the 5:44 mark.

Less than three minutes later, with the Saints buzzing after successfully killing off a penalty on Ryan Garvey, Gicewicz called for a pass from Ryan Lough at the right side of the net and then bested Buffalo with a hard wraparound to pull St. Lawrence within one again.

But the Saints couldn't convert on opportunities down the stretch, with Buffalo making six of his 20 saves in the third period. Brey made 24 saves in the loss for St. Lawrence, including 13 in the first period.

Dartmouth finished with a slight 27-22 edge in shots, while the Saints held a 12-10 edge in shot blocks.

The Saints will return to Appleton Arena on Saturday night to faceoff against Harvard. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
