Saints' men’s basketball holds on for key road win

Ben Crawford recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 20 points and 13 rebounds leading the St. Lawrence University Men's Basketball team to a 70-60 victory over Bard College Friday night in a Liberty League matchup at the Stevenson Athletic Center in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.

The Saints (9-7 overall, 5-3 Liberty League) jumped out to an early lead with a 22-10 advantage in the first 10 minutes of the game but Bard (6-12, 3-6) battled backBen Crawford recorded his fourth double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds against Bard and closed the first half on a 16-6 run and trailed by just two points at 28-26 heading into the halftime intermission.

In the second half, St. Lawrence came out on fire and scored 14 of the first 16 points of the half to regain control.

Bard, who received scoring from just the starting five players, ran into foul trouble and was unable to put together a late run to cut into the St. Lawrence lead.

The Raptor were able to cut the lead to six points at 59-53 with 3:20 left to play but Crawford answered with a pair of layups over the next 40 seconds to regain the 10-point advantage.

Riley Naclerio, Crawford and Kyle Kobis hit single free throws down the stretch and Willie Zachery added a late steal and fast break layup to close out the game.

Crawford led the Saints with 20 points and 13 rebounds while Naclerio finished with 14 points and six rebounds and Kyle Edwards and Zachery each scored 11 for St. Lawrence. Edwards handed out a team-leading five assists.

The Saints forced 21 Bard turnovers and scored 16 points off the turnovers.

The Raptors were limited to five players scoring and had no points from the bench personnel.

St. Lawrence finishes the weekend road trip with a 4 pm game at Vassar Saturday.
