The St. Lawrence University field hockey team used a heavy 26-7 advantage in shots en route to an impressive 3-1 non-conference victory over St. John Fisher in Rochester, NY on Wednesday night.

The Saints, who held an 11-5 advantage in penalty corners, improve to 5-4 on the season while the Cardinals fall to 1-7.

St. Lawrence controlled the tempo out of the gate and applied consistent pressure on Fisher goalkeeper Kellie Redmond. Though the home team was able to keep the Saints off the scoreboard early, junior Courtney Davis would put her team on top 1-0 heading into intermission with a goal at 18:59. Davis' second goal of the year was assisted by classmate Ashley Ferenczy.

The Scarlet and Brown would put the game away in the second half with consecutive goals only 9:18 apart to take a 3-0 lead late in the contest. Seniors Erika Swits and Emily Riley tallied goals to extend the visitor's lead at 51:20 and 60:38, consecutively. Swits' goal, which was unassisted, was her sixth of the season while Riley's seventh goal was assisted by Davis.

Though Stacie Skidmore would snap Matos' shutout bid with a goal at 63:38, the Saints were able to protect their lead and post a 3-1 victory.

Redmond finished with 11 saves in a losing effort while Matos picked up the win behind a four-save performance.

St. Lawrence will be in action again on Sunday, October 2 when it hosts Nazareth College at Hall-Leet Stadium at 12:00pm.
