Saints edge Clarkson in North Country Tri-Match golf match

Jeff Duggan shot rounds of 77 and 76 and rookie Jack Reardon shot 77 and 78 to lead St. Lawrence University's men's golf team to a two-stroke victory over Clarkson in a tri-team meet among the North Country rivals played at the St. Lawrence University Golf Course and the Potsdam Country Club Saturday and Sunday.

The Saints finished with a best-four of six score total of 624 with Clarkson second with 626, Potsdam third at 632 and a SLU Brown team finishing at 638.

The Saints shot 307 on their home course led by a 75 from John Harris and 77s by both Duggan and Reardon on Saturday and had a four-stroke lead over Clarkson and Potsdam which tied for second in round one at 311. Clarkson shot 315 in Sunday's round at the Potsdam Country Club to gain two strokes on the Saints.

Potsdam's Shane Laurie was the overall medalist in the tournament with rounds of 75 and 77 for a 152 total. Duggan and Tom Cline of Clarkson tied for second at 153 while Charlie Wood of Clarkson and Walker Steers, who played for the SLU Brown team tied for fourth at 154.

Reardon's 155 total was sixth overall while John Harris tied for seventh with rounds 75 and 81 for a 156, Ren O'Connor shot 79-82-161 to tie for 10th, freshman Brandon Lustig shot 78 and 84 for a 162 total and a tie for 12th while Adrian Bouthot shot rounds of 82 and 87 and was 22nd at 169.

For the Saint Brown team, Brady Garrett finished ninth with rounds of 81 and 78 while Peter Papyanikous tied for 12th with rounds of 77 and 85 for a 162 total. Mike Phelan was 15th with rounds of 80 and 83 and Dixon Mallory shot 82 and 85 for a 167 total, tied for 18th.

Matt Barbuzzi shot 173, Alex Kuno 175 and Chris Lockwood 180 as individual entries for the Saints, who will host their annual collegiate invitational at the SLU Golf Course on Saturday and Sunday.
