Three Saints scored in double-digits as the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team defeated Plattsburgh State 72-58 on Tuesday night in the Burkman Gymnasium.

St. Lawrence improves to 4-0 while Plattsburgh State falls to 2-2.

"Plattsburgh did a nice job of hitting us with some tough defense and it took us a while to match their intensity with our own on offense," said Head Coach Dan Roiger. "This wasn't our best effort tonight, but we have to find ways to win when we are not playing our best, and we did that. We have alot to learn from this game."

First-year student Kelly Legg led all scorers with 20 points, while adding six rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Junior co-captain Katie Edgerton had 15 points and eight rebounds and classmate Casey Capello 16 points and six rebounds.

Kathleen Payne led the Cardinals with 16 points, followed by Taylor Amarando and Nora Campbell who added 12 points apiece.

The two teams exchanged leads several times until the Saints were able to build their largest advantage of the half behind a 3-pointer by Capello at the 2:26 mark. Two Cardinal baskets cut the lead to 29-20 at the end of the half.

The home team lead by as many as 21 points until Plattsburgh's Payne helped the Cardinals chip away at the deficit, coming to within 12 points with under three minutes to play. Junior Iris Santoni made five of her last six attempted free throws down the stretch, finishing with nine points and helping the Saints close out the game 72-58.

The Scarlet and Brown will battle the Ithaca Bombers on Friday, December 3rd in the Burkman Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00pm.
