The St. Lawrence University volleyball team made quick work of Hartwick College on Friday afternoon, as the Saints defeated the Hawks 3-0 in impressive fashion in the opener of the 2014 Oneonta Invitational.

The Saints improved to 23-11 after the solid 25-16, 25-16, 25-14 win, while Hartwick falls to 8-20 on the year. The win avenges an earlier 3-1 St. Lawrence to Hartwick back on September 26.

"We were a bit sloppy in a few areas, but we didn't make errors so extreme that they led directly to points for Hartwick," said St. Lawrence head coach Shelly Roiger. "We'll need to be much crisper tomorrow against Hunter and Oneonta."

The Saints jumped out to a 1-0 lead behind the 25-16 win, as the team has 12 kills on 25 attempts in the opener. Hartwick was unable to threaten in any of the three sets, as St. Lawrence rolled to the victory.

Rookie Masha Kolesnikova led all players with seven kills, while Cristina Deschaine and Becky Briggs combined for 11 kills, no errors and seven blocks. Senior captain Jenna Street had 14 assists while Mariah Dignan had a team-high 10 digs.

Hartwick was led by Rosa Maun's five kills on 14 swings, while Quincy Kinzel had a match-high 16 assists. The Hawks, who committed 38 team errors in the match, were led defensively by Alyssa Zeitler's 14 digs.

St. Lawrence gets its second day of competition in Oneonta, NY underway tomorrow against Hunter College at 10:00am before playing the hosting Red Dragons at noon.
