St. Lawrence University's men's squash team will take a 4-2 overall record and a national ranking of 16 into a break for exams and the holidays after going 2-1 in the Hamilton Round Robin.

The Saints beat Hamilton 9-0 in a Friday evening match and then split a pair on Saturday, beating 13th-ranked Navy 8-1 in a match that included several highly competitive individual matches, and losing 8-1 to 10th ranked Franklin and Marshall.

Eight of the nine counting matches in the Hamilton match were won in straight games by the Saints. Amay Merchant needed an extra game for his 4-1 win over Martin Bawden at one against Hamilton as the two swapped wins in games one and two before Merchant closed it out with 11-9 and 12-10 wins.

Alex Dodge, Vir Seth, Will Campo, Michael Badali, Tom Kraft, Jermaine Xaba, Nathan Ticho and Russell Woeltz all won in three sgriaght games in two through nine and Roger Miller won an exhibition match at ten, allowing only two points in three games.

Tight matches were the order of the day in the Saints' 8-1 win over Navy at Hamilton on Saturday.

Merchant sustained the lone Saint loss as he fell to Navy's Allan Lutz 6-11, 11-8, 11-9, 6-11, 11-7, but while three other matches went five and two more went four games, the Saints prevailed in all.

Dodge beat Hunter Beck of Navy from two down, losing the first two games 12-10 and 11-7 before rallying for the win with 11-5, 11-9 and 11-5 wins. Seth won in three games at three and Campo won 12-10, 11-4 and 15-13 over Hunter Bouchard of Navy at four. Badali was down 2-1 against John Richey, but came back with 11-8 and 11-2 wins for a 3-2 victory and Kraft and Navy's John Tracey traded wins before Kraft prevailed 11-3 in game five at six.

Xaba ran his personal record to 4-0 with a 3-1 win at seven while Ticho beat David Koenig at eight in five, winning the first two before Koenig took wins in games three and four. Ticho won the fifth 11-9 for the match. Woeltz won match two of a perfect weekend 3-1 at nine.

Woeltz was the only winner against 10th ranked Franklin and Marshall in the final match of the three match set, but the Saints put up a good battle against the Diplomats.

Woeltz beat Ben Lurio 3-2, coming from 2-1 down with 11-6 and 11-7 wins for the lone Saint point at nine.

Merchant lost in four to Gabriel de Melo at one and Dodge was beaten in three games at two, 11-7, 13-11, 11-4. Seth, Campo and Badali lost in three games at three four and five and Kraft took Pat Cunningham of F&M to four at six, splitting games one and two before Cunningham prevailed. Xaba sustained his first loss of the year at seven, and Ticho lost in a battle with Chris Gagnier, 11-5, 18-16, 12-10 at eight.

The Saints are now off for exams and the holidays and will return to action at the Amherst round robin on Jan.14.
