St. Lawrence University Director of Athletics Margie Strait has announced that Dr. Jodi Canfield '91, who has coached the women's lacrosse team for 15 seasons, has been named an Assistant Athletic Director and will transition into her new role for the fall of 2014. Ashley Pike, a former standout at Syracuse University and a five-year assistant to Canfield, has been named the new head coach for the Saints for the 2015 campaign.

"This coaching transition comes at an opportune time for both well-qualified women to grow in their careers and benefit the division with their expertise and leadership," said Strait.

Dr. Canfield, who earned her Ph.D. from Syracuse University in 2012, will continue to serve as the Coordinator of the Sports Studies and Exercise Science minor, one of the most popular minors at St. Lawrence. She will also assume administrative assignments as the Assistant Athletic Director.

"I am very grateful for my time as the head coach of women's lacrosse for the past 15 years. I remember every player and have great memories that will last a lifetime," said Dr. Canfield. "I am a proud alumna and know that Ashley will be a great coach and mentor for the team. I am looking forward to the new challenges and responsibilities in my new role."

Pike graduated in 2007 from Syracuse and joined the Saints' coaching staff for the 2010 season. A native of Watertown, NY, she received her Master's Degree from St. Lawrence in 2012 and has taught in the University's First-Year Program. She was a Third Team National All-American as a senior for the Orange and recorded 44 goals in her senior campaign, seventh-most in Syracuse single-season history.

"I want to first congratulate Jodi on her new position and for an exceptional coaching career at St. Lawrence," said Coach Pike. "She has been an incredible mentor for five years and it is because of her that I feel prepared and excited to help continue the women's lacrosse program's tradition of success both on and off the field."

Both Dr. Canfield and Coach Pike officially transitioned to their new roles on Friday, May 16.
